There are two ways to treat termites. The first is to treat your home before they enter. The second is to treat your home after they enter. Treating termites is much cheaper than killing them after they’ve entered your home and started eating. Ands eat they will. Subterranean termites need moisture and soil. Which some people might wrongly assume that means they don’t eat houses. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, they normally start at the bottom (Where you are least likely to notice them) and eat their way up. In fact, they are the most destructive species of termite and can actually cause an entire building to collapse. The other type of termites that can attack your home are known as “Dry Wood Termites”. Unlike subterranean termites they do not require soil to survice. They also do not require nearly as much moisture. So while subterranean termites start at the bottom of your house and eat their way up, dry termites do exactly the opposite. They generally start in the attic eating the framing that holds your roof on your home. So with one set of termites possibly starting below your house and wanting to eat their way up and another set of termites wanting to start at the top and eat their way down… Who do you call?
